Q. How long have you been working at MarketMakers?

I have worked at MarketMakers for 2 years.

Q. What did you do before MarketMakers?

Before I began working at MarketMakers I studied a 2 year Extended Diploma in Business, whilst working a part time job at the local butchers. After this I moved into boat revocations. I refurbished an ex-troop carrier with my dad to put in Langstone Harbour as a tour boat for the wildlife. 

Q. What made you want a job at MarketMakers?

It was coming into the winter and I couldn’t work on the boat any longer. I looked around and found out that MarketMakers are the best in the industry next to their sister company at the time, Lead Forensics. I applied for a role at LF and they referred me to MarketMakers. I liked the career progression possibilities so, I took the job straight away.

Q. What position did you start in at MarketMakers, and what positions did you progress into?

I started as an Account Executive dialling on behalf of various outbound B2B clients. I then went on to be a Senior Campaign Executive in our marketing department which is currently leading me to a Social Media Manager position.

Q. Do you think progressing has been easy, have you been given enough opportunities?

Progression has been challenging. The role I am developing into has taken a lot of time and effort. A Social Media position hasn’t ever been a full time occupation at MarketMakers before so, I have had to work closely with my managers to set out a career plan. There are definitely enough opportunities. For instance, I’m creating my own role in the company. If you work hard enough and show potential they will push you to develop into that area. I like working at MarketMakers because, I had no experience when starting and they’ve still given me the opportunity to excel and achieve what I’ve wanted from a career.

Q. Talk to me about the support that was on offer- have you completed any programmes through The Business School?

I am planning to get my promotion to Social Media Specialist within the next month. After this I aiming to become Social Media Manager. My longer term goals are to become more involved with the digital media marketing side of things. I’m developing by training beside the Marketing Director in SEO and training with the Business School.

Q. What do you like the most about working at MarketMakers?

I love that we’re less like colleagues and more like a family. Despite having 450 employees they always manage to keep everyone close.

Q. Are you offered support in your role, who is your manager what do they do for you?

My current managers are Rachel Hatton and Gemma Storkey. They do offer me support in terms of progression. They have regular catch ups with me and a clear lay out of what I need to do in order to get promoted.

Q. Do you use your progression to help inspire other members of staff?

I think in terms of recognising persistence and having that end goal, yes. People around me knew where I wanted to go and they can slowly see me getting closer to my target.
