Q. How long have you been working at MarketMakers?

8 years (after being headhunted).

Q. What did you do before MarketMakers?

I studied for a Geography degree then worked for an alternative telemarketing agency.

Q. What made you want a job at MarketMakers?

I was originally interested in working in a sales and marketing role but always wanted to go into some sort of training role because I had considered teaching after uni. I was particularly interested in the opportunity for career progression that MarketMakers had to offer.

Q. What position did you start in at MarketMakers, and what positions did you progress into?

I joined MarketMakers as an Account Executive, after 6 months’ I progressed to Account Manager. After that I was promoted roughly every 6 months until I hit Client Director Tier 2.

Earlier this year I was approached by Steve Cass about an opportunity that had arisen in the Learning and Development team. I have always had a passion for training and coaching so it was really exciting to move into this space.

Q. Do you think progressing has been easy, have you been given enough opportunities?

As the business has grown over the years, progression has been very realistic, the harder you work, the bigger the rewards and as a result more opportunities become available. The support which is offered at MarketMakers is second to none and I now have the privilege of seeing so many people develop through the Tiers via the Business School.

Q. Talk to me about the support that was offer- have you completed any programmes through The Business School?

During my time at MarketMakers, I have completed two programmes through The Business School. I first completed the Optimum Leadership Programme and then Sales Optimum. It took me over a year to complete each course and since moving to the L&D team, I have been able to use my own experience of completing the programmes to help other people.

Q. What do you like the most about working at MarketMakers?

I like the fast paced atmosphere that surrounds MarketMakers and the opportunity I have within L&D to support others during their career progression. As part of my role I conduct campaign workshops, power sessions and coaching and development discussions with other employees in the company – this keeps me to stay connected with everyone.

Q. How are you planning to progress next, are you currently involved in any programmes?

In 2017 my goal is to complete a full training qualification (CIPD) which will help me progress into a senior L&D role in the future. The qualification will allow me to take on more responsibilities by expanding my knowledge within the training area.

Q. Are you offered support in your role, who is your manager what do they do for you?

As I progressed through the tiers, I was greatly supported by my Manager at the time, Jodie Goodchild. Since joining the L&D team, Steve Cass has been very supportive in helping me settle in (including giving me the opportunity in the first place). With my previous experience of the business, Steve had full confidence in me to independently lead power sessions which has really built my confidence. Steve has provided positive support and allowed me to explore all aspects of this role. By delegating some of his work to me, it shows he trusts me to deliver.

Q. Do you use your progression to help inspire other members of staff?

I like to think so, since I have completed the Optimum Leadership and Sales, it is easier to give people my support as they understand I have done it too.

Q. Do you have any personal goals that MarketMakers has helped you to achieve or any that you are currently working towards?

Self-development has become a huge part of my career and MarketMakers has been at the centre of that. My personal goals have been to increase my earnings and build a career and I have been able to achieve both of those things. Moving forward these goals are still the same and I also want to focus on my family and be able to support them. MM has given me a career, a good lifestyle and a family (my other half works here too!)
