INVESTORS IN PEOPLE ASSESSOR VISITS INDUSTRY LEADING MARKETING COMPANY

"I have had the privilege of visiting 40 organisations in a variety of sectors both public and private over the last 3 years in my role as a specialised Investors in People Assessor and generalist Adviser for Quality South East.

This compliments my role in running Island Personnel Consultants, the Islands longest established professional HR consultancy practice, and providing Adult Careers Guidance, both on and off the Island.

What strikes me most today is how many employees are unhappy in their jobs, seeing work as solely the ‘daily grind’ of producing income to live. Sadly national statistics also show over 20% of new employees leaving in the first 12 months of employment because they are unhappy with the role, their workmates, boss or working conditions.

This makes the job of management a lot tougher, trying to control workforces that are not highly motivated to succeed at what they do. Sadly things go further wrong with behaviour issues and absence difficulties conspiring to make employment of people and handling disputes and tribunal cases a nightmare for even the most hardened management!

So why am I painting such a bleak picture??

Because I am passionate about employee learning and development leading to increased performance and success for Business.

If you had been with me on my journey all over this Region and seen the huge successes that can be made through companies investing behind their people you too would agree!

I recently spent a couple of days with an organisation not all that far away, where the two young Directors had built a buoyant telemarketing company from their front room at home, to plush offices, a £3m turnover and with a workforce of around 80 in 4 years!

They are now providing an industry leading telemarketing service, and have gained their Investors in People national accreditation, so what can we learn from this?"
